But you will still find PK2 useful on occasion. If that fails, I would open a support ticket. That said, I doubt this is going to fix your problem, but it's worth a shot. It's in a JAR file which needs to be unzipped, first. You can also take the firmware out of the IPE program folder and add it to MPLAB8, if you are using that. I think the latest version of IPE is 2.26, and the latest firmware that it should download to your PK3 is 01.34.11. Make sure the appropriate chip is selected. I would try IPE, which you should have installed along with MPLABX, by default.

If you dig up the old forum threads concerning it, they make this software sound like a buggy abortion, long abandoned and forgotten by its parents for the shiny new cross platform, do-all software dubbed IPE. Am I doing something wrong or is the PicKit 3 hardware faulty? Thanks Peterīy standalone, do you mean the PK2-like version? I wouldn't get too attached to that. I installed MPLABX on a Windows 8 machine. I reopened the standalone programmer connects OK. (I thought that was the latest and best version - maybe I'm wrong.) I opened a HEX file and triedto program a chip. Is it meant to? So I closed the standalone programmer and downloaded, installed and ran MPLABX under XP. The Pickit3 runs quite warm near ICSD pin 1. It's the same result with other known good boards. But when I click the Read button, the status LED blinks and the s/w reports "No device detected". So it looks to me like I'm talking to the PicKit 3 just fine. I can power the target via the Vdd 5V checkbox. To test it I plugged it into a Pickit2 44-pin demo board. OS Firmware Version 2.00.05 Power LED On Active LED On Status LED Off. The standalone programmer s/w sees the PicKit 3 and reports: I want to use the Pickit3 standalone programmer s/w under XP. So I bought a PicKit 3 and plugged it in.

I've used a Pickit2 for years and it was great - but a client trashed it for me.
